is best [Ed: does "2-1" mean 24-23?]

Ivan says: With the better board, that's a bit too passive for my
liking. Now I hope to exploit my earlier split

Ivan rolls 6 and 2.

Ivan says: I don't want to leave the backmen there - am running out of
play elsewhere on the board. But also I don't want to bring them
further up in his board - he has the better board, plenty of
attackers, plus an anchor. Therefore, only option left is to run a man

stefanp says: Not a good roll. Running looks best - don't know. 13-7
8-6 looks ugly - and I could blitz him from here

Ivan says: I think it was a mistake to move the man off the 14pt - it
was a big threat there. What a bad roll, though - only 55 or 66 was
worse. I want to slow down so I can break the anchor with both men at
the same time. Lots of time left compared with Stefan - the next 2/3
rolls will see the cube turning

Ivan rolls 4 and 2.

Ivan says: 13-9 13-11 is highly blotty, but is hit only with 26 and
35. But then there are two other men to be picked up easily. 13-7 is
too unconstructive. 13-9 7-5 is much more constructive - same number
of hits, but no more men to be picked up. I want to retain slack (i.e.
timing), but not by getting three men on the bar!

best here

I may have a chance to run a man into the outfield to help with my

Ivan rolls 4 and 2.

Ivan says: Three choices: 1) hit once (9-3*) means he cashes on a
rehit, and it's difficult to cover if he misses.

Ivan says: 2) The broken prime (13-9 13-11) means he runs with five
(but he doesn't have a double) or he breaks 17pt (and no cube for me)

Ivan says: 3) hit twice (7-3* 3-1*) starts the gammon and might not
even be a cube for him if he hits

Ivan says: Jelly - I want to analyse this position in more detail.
Three strong choices, they all seem about equal to me over the board.
I think the single hit (9-3*) is the weakest of the three. I choose
the broken prime (13-9 13-11) because it's the least gammonish if it
goes wrong. If he runs with five, I still have play left, it just
means he also gets more time. The double hit hurts me badly if he
rolls a one - the bar point is also open for a gammon-gaining hit

stefanp says: Will he hit or play safe? Hitting both is right I think
- two on the bar against a four-point board is bad for me. Hitting on
the 3pt is a safer strong play also - but I prefer the double hit. The
safe play (13-9 13-11) is also acceptable. Jelly?

Jellyfish 2, Level 7 says: the top five ways to play 42 are:

 9/3* 0.564
13/9 13/11 0.550

great if it works, gammonish if it doesn't (odds are in my favour -
his one hit vs my two covers). Hitting (11-1*) hurts my plan to run
the two back men, plus he either hits or comes in on 3, both of which
are bad (56% chance of either of those things happening). 11-5 9-5
looks too much like a crunch to me - suddenly I have relatively few
good rolls. Because the odds are in my favour, I vacate the bar point
now for a greater gain next roll

stefanp says: 11-5 9-5 looks best for Ivan here. Running with his back
man is fatal for him as I will launch an attack on the remaining man.
Making the 3pt is a mistake, giving me a game-winning shot
